Recycled rubber provides comfort underfoot and sound damping for this colourful and dynamic recreation space.

‘The Garage’ at BNZ The Terrace is part of a state-of-the-art 12-floor refurbishment by interior design company Unispace. The new interior features a ‘pioneering mix of multifunctional spaces’ for staff health and wellbeing, including an agile workplace, on-site cafes, retreat sleep pods as well as this fun breakout venue.

BNZ chose to transform a floor of basement car parking into a high-value staff amenity. The Garage houses games tables, an AV screen, bean bags, a full bar, cardio space, e-bike charging and end-of-trip facilities. It encourages games and exercise, relaxation and socialising, and is particularly useful at lunchtimes when wet weather prevents a walk outdoors.

‘The primary playful materiality and colour palette represents the vibrant side of the digital and technology teams at BNZ,’ says Unispace. ’Custom street art by Sparrow Phillips embraces the building’s location in the heart of Wellington, while also being one of the primary wayfinding and digital communication elements.’

In addition to the wall art, bright colours are injected through the furniture and blue Neoflex rubber flooring supplied by Advance Flooring. Selected from a vibrant palette of 20 colours, the Green Tag-certified Neoflex is made from reclaimed synthetic rubber and designed for gym and recreational spaces like this one. The 8mm thick rubber provides excellent sound dampening by reducing reverberative noise up to approximately 16dB.

A finalist in the Colour Award Spatial at the Best Awards 2019, BNZ The Terrace provides a fun corporate playground inviting games and exercise for better health and wellbeing at work.
