Helping to keep early learners safe with CoralTread.

Designed around Reggio Emilia educational principles, ACG Sunderland’s new Early Learning School provides children with both dynamic, fun-filled spaces and quiet areas for reading and rest. To help protect the building’s interior, children, staff and visitors, the designers selected CoralTread entry matting from Advance Flooring.

‘Our outdoor space is a huge asset,’ says Centre Manager Sue Revill, ‘and because of the covered decks, large umbrellas, safety mats and artificial turf, our older children will be able to use the outside playground in most weathers.’

Safety concerns are paramount for educational facilities, and even more so at early learning centres. Small children need to be protected wherever possible from slips and falls, which are much more likely to occur on wet, dirty floors.

CoralTread is a low-profile Entry Matting System comprised of polyamide inserts set into a stylish aluminium frame and designed for maximum performance. Around 80% of dirt and moisture entering a building comes in on the soles of shoes, and polyamide fibres are among the most effective for trapping and removing it.

Polyamide fibres are constructed with a mix of fine yarn piles for moisture absorption and thick, monofilament piles to scrape off solid particles. This combination allows the fibres to raise back under pressure, creating an open weave that serves to trap dirt and moisture more effectively.

CoralTread is highly slip-resistant and is engineered to fit into a shallow recess, minimising trip hazards. And as well as helping to keep the Early Learning School’s staff and children safe, this entry matting also serves to protect the building’s interior. Stopping dirt from entering prevents stains, scratches and other damage to floors, and is a major factor in reducing the cost of cleaning and maintenance.
