An office interior inspired by the magnificent colours and patterns of rural landscapes.

Hustler Equipment, specialists in farm and livestock feeding machinery, have moved into new state-of the-art headquarters in the Hawke’s Bay. Assisted by architectural and interior design studio Yellow6, the fit-out provides a sophisticated and warm experience for clients and staff.

‘Hustler wanted a functional office and showroom space that would reflect their brand values,’ says Yellow6 designer Kate Fraser. ‘And as they are a key player in the farming equipment industry, we also wanted to subtly reference the rural environment through materiality, colour and pattern.’

Materials used to create this character include wallpaper with the texture of animal fur, ceiling panels with the effect of hay bales, and linear patterns in the carpet and timber walls to evoke the patchwork landscape of farming paddocks as seen from the air.

‘Our criteria for selecting the flooring centred on functionality and pattern,’ says Fraser. ‘The feature carpet in the boardroom has a graphic linear pattern in wheat and black. And in the open-plan offices, we selected a more functional dark Linear Spirit carpet tile with a more subtle linear texture.’

The Tecsom Microtec Line collection – used in the boardroom – has delicately striped colours in four colourways. Featuring a compact structure made of 100 per cent polyamide loop, it provides all the durability and maintenance benefits of a hard floor with the comfort and acoustic benefits only a textile can offer.

The Linear Spirit carpet tile – used in the office spaces, corridors and stairs – is unique for a carpet tile in that it looks like broadloom. Also made by French company Tecsom, this collection creates a seamless look, but with all the advantages of a high-quality commercial modular tile: it is quick and easy to install due to its built-in underlay, and the ability to replace single tiles makes long-term maintenance simple.

The multi-loop pile of Linear Spirit comes in 18 different colours and in two patterns. Its generous texture provides comfort underfoot, an artistic 3D effect, and the look of a seamless broadloom. The collection also allows designers to create multiple effects by using the different colour and pattern options from the range.
