Eternal Fitness
For the newly opened Eternal Fitness in Wigram, Christchurch designers Element 17 created a modern fitness space that blends style with function.
‘Our client had owned gyms before and was looking for something more stylish,’ says Senior Designer Tim Powell. ‘He wanted to create his own brand – a flexible space for different types of workouts, with a cool environment that would be great as a setting for Instagram content.’
For the ground-floor weight room, Tim specified Premium Gym Tiles from Advance Flooring. ‘We have an existing relationship with Advance,’ he says. ‘I’ve used their flooring over quite a few years, which is why I went to them first.’
Tim selected yellow for the brand colour, as it is not often used for gym brands and contrasts well with the blacks and greys of the industrial-looking interior, which features a lot of exposed steel.
Premium Gym Tiles laid over the concrete slab offered a long-term, high-performance solution for the weight room, which is used for both free weights and heavy-duty weight machines. ‘The tiles needed to perform well as a gym floor,’ says Tim. ‘There’s a lot of impact and noise, so they had to perform acoustically as well as protect the floor.’
Advance Premium Gym Tiles have a dual layer construction that is highly resilient to the pounding of gym equipment and engineered to be slip-resistant for a safer exercise environment. These are a cost-effective choice where a tough, sound-absorbing, anti-vibration and comfortable tile surface is required.
‘Because the client had operated gyms before, he already knew the type of product he needed. We showed him the tiles from Advance, a proven company in the New Zealand market, and he agreed it was the product for the job,’ says Tim. ‘And Advance were great with their support, very responsive and helpful.’
