A new classroom block at Westlake Boys High School in Auckland gets a complete flooring solution from Advance.

Designed by Ignite Architects, the two-storey block uses a combination of Detroit and Parking carpet tiles, Gecko entrance tiles to create a comfortable and safe learning environment.

Westlake Boys High School has a roll of almost 2,400 students, making for heavy traffic in and out of buildings. In the new block, classrooms are accessed directly from the outside through room-width sliding glass doors. These entrances are fitted with heavy-duty Gecko entrance tiles, which trap dirt and moisture from footwear approaching from all directions.

For the main areas, Detroit and Parking carpet tiles are laid in a pixelated pattern of red and dark/pale greys. This brings a bright and vibrant energy to the spaces, while enhancing the learning environment.

Having the right learning environment is vital to well-being and concentration. The Ministry of Education highlights the link between good physical health and academic achievement, with air quality being a key environmental factor. Carpet is proven to significantly reduce the amounts of airborne particulates such as dust and moisture, providing healthier spaces for students to learn in.

Advance also supplied the hard flooring in bathrooms and corridors. This features deeply inlaid crystal particles for a brighter, cleaner finish and a hard-wearing, slip-resistant surface with high resistance to heavy traffic. Embedded coloured chips result in a decorative design.
