To showcase their company’s sleek design aesthetic in a head office fit-out, Fuze Business Interiors chose carpet tiles from Advance Flooring.

Inspired to refit the head office space of parent company Durell Commercial Interiors in Auckland, Fuze Business Interiors wanted to showcase products that would in turn inspire their clients. For the flooring, they chose Streetscape Cashel carpet tiles from Advance.

‘The previous fit-out had served its lifespan and was looking very tired,’ says manager Toni Dickson. ’We needed to refurbish the interior to better reflect the quality and type of projects we were working on.’

This entailed a full repaint, lighting upgrade, new reception counter, dividing walls and new flooring. ‘We did all the things we recommend for our clients, so that we could showcase both our design aesthetic and the products we enjoy using the most,’ says Dickson.

The right colours are key

Using a largely monochromatic palette, with timber elements for warmth and variation, the designers selected dark grey Streetscape Cashel carpet tiles to offset the lighter design elements.

‘We kept the flooring rich and dark, because the rest of the interior was going to be very light and reflective – white walls, light charcoal-grey doors, white furniture,’ says Dickson. ‘Advance gave us a selection of carpet samples that we laid out in the office for our team to experience and compare, and when we laid out the Cashel samples, everyone agreed it was the right option.’

For Fuze, having a carpet tile that is New Zealand-stocked was important. ‘If clients walk in and like it, we know with confidence that we can get it easily, and its price point is achievable for a lot of clients.’

With its randomised, organic pattern, Streetscape Cashel provides a neutral setting for all the elements of the office design, while maintaining its own visual interest.

‘A great thing about the pattern is that it can be laid in a number of ways,’ says Dickson. ‘We’ve gone with a straight lay, which gives the illusion of being linear (though it isn’t). An ashlar or quarter-turn will give it a totally different look. It’s a beautiful tile – I love it.’
